Recently, I had the opportunity to sit down with Katelyn Bojanzyk, Director of Sales and Catering at The Iroquois Club, a top venue for Michigan weddings. Since 2006, The Iroquois Club has hosted countless special events, from weddings to bar mitzvahs, birthdays, baby showers and corporate parties. The venue is best known for its refined, rustic elegance and upscale service that keeps guests coming back to host their most special events.
DB: Thanks for taking the time to talk with me today, Katelyn! Why don’t you start by telling me what your current position is?
KB: I am currently the Director of Sales and Catering at The Iroquois Club.
DB: Was this something you had always wanted to do? Tell me about how you ended up here.
KB: I majored in Psychology at Oakland University. I was offered a waitstaff position here when I was actually at The Iroquois Club for an event back in 2008. I organized events through my sorority at the time and I was able to work here, go to school and stay involved on campus. Throughout the years I was able to move up through the company and make a career out of event planning!
DB: What do you value most about your current role?
KB: I love wedding planning and the couples that celebrate their special day at The Iroquois Club. Each couple is different and I love helping them plan one of the most important days of their lives. Being actively involved with each couple during the planning process from start to finish is key.
DB: Wedding planning sounds like fun, but also stressful! What has been the biggest learning to date from your career path?
KB: Honestly, work/life balance is a continuous struggle for me. Family time is very important to me and I need to remember to keep the balance!
DB: What is your favorite interview question to ask candidates?
KB: When was the last time you went above and beyond for a guest?
